Overview

As a Software Development Team Leader within our university's learning platform development team, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the development and enhancement of our web application aimed at supporting diverse learning experiences. This includes managing a team of developers, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality software, and contributing to the strategic direction of the platform. Our team operates within an agile/scrum framework and places a strong emphasis on utilizing AI to enhance learning outcomes. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders, including students, teachers, and external users, to continuously improve our platform's functionality and usability.

Responsibilities

1. Team Leadership:

  • Lead and mentor a team of 7-10 developers and QA engineers fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment

  • Provide guidance and support to team members by assisting with technical challenges and career development

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to team members

  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and knowledge sharing within the team

2. Project Management:

  • Coordinate with product owners and stakeholders to prioritize and plan development tasks

  • Oversee the execution of development sprints and ensure that deliverables are completed on time and within scope

  • Monitor project progress and identify potential risks or obstacles, as well ass implement mitigation strategies as needed

  • Champion agile/scrum best practices and lead agile ceremonies, such as sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives

3. Technical Leadership:

  • Contribute to architectural discussion and technical decision-making process

  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in AI and educational technology and identify opportunities for integration into our platform

  • Collaborate with developers to design scalable and maintainable software solutions that meet the needs of our users

  • Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices

4. Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with academic staff, students, and external users to gather requirements and feedback on platform features and functionality

  • Communicate project updates, milestones, and challenges to stakeholders in a clear and timely manner

  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders, fostering trust and collaboration to drive the success of the products

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ETS keystone behaviors

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in a leadership role within a software development team

  • Strong technical background in web development, with proficiency in technologies such as JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and modern web frameworks

  • Demonstrate ability to manage and mentor a team of developers, fostering a positive and productive work environment

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders

  • Experience working in an agile/scrum environment, with a solid understanding of agile principles and practices

  • Experience with cloud technologies, particularly AWS, including deployment, management, and optimization of cloud-based applications

  • Experience in developer training or knowledge sharing initiatives within a software development team

  • Experience with AI technologies and their application in software development is a plus

  • Experience in data analytics, related tools, and data-related platform engineering, including designing and maintaining data pipelines, data warehouses, and analytics platforms is a plus

  • Prior experience in the education sector is highly desirable
